This beautiful installation by Mexican artist Carlos Amorales is called Black Cloud and it’s comprised of 30,000 black paper moths effectively transforming space into an experience.
Pictured here is the 3rd time Black Cloud was shown, this space being the Espacio AV, a baroque church in Madrid. The year was 2009.
Carlos is represented in New York and Paris by the Yvon Lambert Gallery, where the installation was first seen publicly in 2007. It moved to the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2008 and in 2009 to the church in Madrid.
This is how Black Cloud appeared at the Yvon Lambert Gallery
There’s a fabulous video interview on Vice where Carlos talks about Black Cloud, his life and some of his other incredible work. Definitely worth a look.
Truly a prolific artist, Carlos works in many mediums including performance art with fabulous collaborators.
